A Leap In Space (29/02/24) _ Short Story

Today is 29th Feb 2024. Its a leap year occurring once every 4 years. How could I missed this auspicious day but to do something I love, write a fictional short from "out of this world" romantic story. Hope u like it.

In the quiet corner of Jurong East, on a small hilltop, lived a young woman named Jin. Her heart beat in rhythm with the cosmic wonders of the universe, and she was a passionate cosmic enthusiast. Jin spent her nights gazing at the stars, dreaming of distant galaxies through her Celestron telescope. Little did she know that her life was about to be forever intertwined with the mysteries of the cosmos on the night of February 29th, 1982, a leap year.

On that fateful night, as the world embraced the magic of the extra day, Jin found herself drawn to her favorite hilltop overlooking the city lights. It was there that she encountered an alien being unlike anything she had ever seen - a celestial being named Keen. Keen's presence radiated a gentle light that mirrored the twinkling stars above, and he walked towards Jin. At first, she was fearful, but then a sense of peace and calm seemed to overcome her. It was on this quiet hilltop that she encountered a being from a distant galaxy.

Keen, a traveler from the nearby galaxy of Andromeda, had been visiting Earth every four years as part of his cosmic exploration duties. This was their very first meeting in 1982, and Jin and Keen shared a deep connection that transcended the boundaries of time and space the moment they laid eyes on each other. They spent countless nights together through the passing years as Keen revisited Earth, and their connection blossomed immensely into a love that was truly out of this world.

As the years passed, Jin has aged physically but gracefully, while Keen's appearance remained unchanged, his age seemingly frozen in an eternal embrace. Despite her cosmetic degeneration, Keen remained faithfully in love with her, and their hearts remained connected. Their love endured the passing of time and the vast expanse of the universe.

With each leap year that came and went, Jin and Keen's love blossomed like a rare cosmic flower. Every parting was painful, yet their bond only grew stronger with each reunion. Their love endured across the vast expanse of the universe.

As the leap year of 2024 approached, a bittersweet realisation settled upon Jin and Keen. It was time for Keen to bid farewell to Earth as his cosmic exploration duties had come to an end, as dictated by his superiors. Though their hearts ached at the thought of separation, they knew that their love was destined to transcend all boundaries, reaching beyond the stars that adorned the night sky.

On the eve of his departure, under the canopy of a moonlit sky, Keen took Jin's hand in his own and looked into her eyes with a love that spanned galaxies. With a voice filled with tenderness, he made a solemn vow to her.

"Jin, my beloved," Keen whispered, his words carrying the weight of a thousand stars. "Though I must leave Earth behind, know that my heart will always belong to you. In the next leap year, when the stars align once more, I promise to return for you. Together, we shall journey to Andromeda, where life is eternal and our love will shine brighter than the cosmic light."

And so, as Keen's form shimmered and faded into the night sky, leaving behind a trail of stardust in his wake, Jin watched with a mixture of sorrow and hope in her heart. For she knew that their love was a rare and precious gift, a tale of two souls bound by destiny, destined to reunite once again in the next leap year. Their love story would continue to unfold in the timeless expanse of the universe.

As Keen was travelling back to his world, he realise his ship is about to develop a leak beneath the belly of his light speed ship. He knew he has to get up and check the source of the problem. And because of that leak, I woke up, got to the bathroom and phew what a relief....oh is 7am. time to wake up too.
