Old Mount Vernon Crematorium & Columbarium / Funeral Parlour......A spooky Experience

Old Mount Vernon Crematorium & Columbarium / Funeral Parlour

Mount Vernon.
Originally a solemn sanctuary for final farewells, that was later transformed into a funeral parlor, where countless souls were laid to their eternal rest, or were they?
In 2018, its doors were closed for the last time, yielding to the march of progress as swanky modern residential dwellings will emerged in its place. As the last echoes of human presence faded within its chambers, it stood as a silent sentinel of bygone days, a haunting echo of the past.

Legends shrouded old Mount Vernon in whispers of eerie occurrences and spectral visitations, with tales of inexplicable phenomena and ghostly manifestations haunting its dilapidated halls. Within its crumbling walls, prior to its demolition, the echoes of sorrows and longing seemed to linger, as if the spirits of the departed refused to depart, their presence palpable to those who dared to venture near the spine chilling premise.

Prior to it's shutdown and due to the demands of my work, I frequently find myself at this location. It is typically bustling with activity—mourners, loved ones, friends,  notable guests, celebrities and even politicians. In short, despite its association with death, this place was brimming with life as a multitude of individuals irrespective of race, religious backgrounds, famous or the average joes, rich or poor. They all came to bid their final farewell.

But now, sadly  the building stood isolated and stone cold, enveloped in an eerie silence, devoid of any signs of life.

On one stormy night, as I was driving past this once bustling venue. I thought I could take one last look at my regular haunt here where I used to  meet my friends and associates frequently there before the wrecking ball comes down on her just to satisfy my sense of nostalgia and reminiscence.

With my phone's light as my only guide and a nerve of steel, I bravely or rather foolishly ventured into the dimly lit building, as the rain continued to pour down relentlessly with even greater intensity. As I crossed the threshold of the decaying structure, a profound silence descended upon me, punctuated solely by the echo of my own footsteps reverberating through the desolate corridors.

A palpable sense of foreboding thickened the air as I advanced even further towards the cremation chamber. The flickering lights cast eerie, dancing shadows of swaying branches of trees  on the walls, intensifying the sensation of being watched by the "unknowns." Suddenly, a gust of wind whipped through the chamber, accompanied by a thunderous clap that startled me momentarliy. In the chaos, my phone slipped from my grasp, its flashlight went off and plunging me into impenetrable darkness.

Whispers, thick with an unsettling aura, saturated the air, accompanied by a bone-chilling voice that reverberated inside my ear whispering "You shouldn't have come," it hissed with a slow low tone voice liken to that of Star Wars villain Darth Vader, and that sent shivers down my spine. Suddenly, panic seized, as I heard a loud crack followed by the sound of a fallen large object crashing down as I frantically sought a way out, but my efforts were thwarted by a sinister obstruction— that earlier sound of the  fallen object was a large tree branch which had fallen due to the incessant rain outside and barricading the door and rendering it impassable from within, trapping me inside the cold frigid, ominous hall.

As an increasing sense of dread gripped me and fear seems to be gnawing within me every second, I frantically searched the dimly lit surroundings for a possible escape route. However, my hopes were dashed as ghostly floating shadows seemed to dance and flicker menacingly on the walls, adding to the oppressive atmosphere.

My heart is now pounding in my chest & crawling up to my throat. Then out of nowhere, I stumbled upon a door that seemed to materialise out of the darkness, a place that had totally eluded my notice during my time while working in this foreboding place....As I slowly push open the creaking wooden door  hoping its an escape exit to the outside world, . And there, it was a wooden staircase that leads to a gradual darkness therein below. Then,........ a seemingly dim flickering candle light appeared and seems to ascend from below the stairway.

My bladder is now uncomfortably full and with a pack of popcorns in my hand, I  mindlessly shoved them in my mouth desperately trying to distract myself from my intense fear and anxiety.

Then suddenly,.........it appears,  right before me  ...............
it flashes on the screen.
"TO BE CONTINUED IN PART 2"
(Akan Datang).

I mumbled with popcorns in my mouth with disappointment "Aiyo! This is not a Jack Neo production leh!, why got part 2 one"

Part 2:

Now that dark fleeting shadow came straight towards me and I stumbled backwards onto a pile of gunny sacks. I laid there holding my breath on my back and still as log, The shadow loomed over me  with its thick eerie presence. My heart was racing and droplets of perspiration roll over me face as I brace for the worst and then.... and it finally spoke, expecting a cold sinister slow low tone voice to slice through the  deep silence.

"Oi Ah Lao ahh.....I pee liao, u want to pee or  not? I haven't flush the bowl yet, u want to pee u remember to flush hor"

Turns out this dark fleeting shadow was my wife, and the only thing haunting me at 5am was her unshakable dedication to bathroom etiquette. Who needs horror movies when you’ve got a spouse waking you up with toilet updates? Truly terrifying.

The End.
